hard work, he’s this week’s spotlight! Read more about him here:

Guest Experience Associate

How long have you worked at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium?

“I started when the aquarium first opened back in January of 2012.”

What do you do?

“I more so work with the guests as oppose to the animals. I make sure I have the answers to any of their questions and make sure they’re having a good

Do you have a favorite animal at the aquarium?

“My favorite animal is the Giant Pacific Octopus. He’s so smart and really interactive.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

“It depends on what I’m assigned to for that day. Sometimes I’m helping with exhibit design, which means I check in with curation in the morning and then
help with whatever they need. For a while I was helping with the design of the octopus exhibit. Other than that I normally just come in and get ready to
have fun with all of the guests.”

Do you have any previous experience working with aquatic life?

“I don’t necessarily have experience with this type of aquatic life besides just having aquariums at home, but I worked with the Cleveland Zoo throughout
high school on a volunteer team that dealt with more land-aquatic mammals.”

What is your favorite part of the job?

“My favorite part is probably when guests are really interested in the animals and when their faces light up after I tell them an interesting fact they
didn’t know before. When guests are eager to learn it makes it all worth it.”

What is your favorite memory with the GCA?

“My favorite memory is definitely getting to work with the curation department to design the octopus exhibit.”

What is your dream job?

“A full time artist.”

What will you miss the most?

“Probably just the aquarium in general – I’ve been here from the beginning so getting to see it grow and expand has been really cool and I can’t wait to
come back and visit.”

Best of luck, Ryan! We will miss you!
