Splash Fund Mission Statement:
Educate and encourage passion about aquatic life and participation in the conservation of fresh and salt water habitats through sustainable human practices.
The Greater Cleveland Aquarium’s Splash Fund started in Spring 2013, and has already made an impact. Activities this year have included:
- Six beach clean-ups. The Splash Fund adopted Edgewater Beach, and collected more than 500 pounds of garbage. Our hundreds of volunteers tested the water quality and recorded beach conditions, following Alliance for the Great Lakes standards. This on-going record of conditions helps to gauge long-term issues and improvements in our water and beach quality.
- Providing classes funding to visit Aquarium for a school program if the school is unable to afford the educational ticket price.
- Working with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to place aquariums in fourth grade classrooms. Each class observes the aquarium, tests conditions and records changes in behavior to meet the Ohio science curriculum standards for fourth graders. The culmination of this project will be a visit to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.
