GCA Splash Fund
Splash Fund Mission Statement:
Educate and encourage passion about aquatic life and participation in the conservation of fresh and salt water habitats through sustainable human practices.
The GCA’s Splash Fund started in Spring 2013, and has already made an impact. Activities this year have included:
- Six beach clean-ups. The Splash Fund adopted Edgewater Beach, and collected more than 500 pounds of garbage. Our hundreds of volunteers tested the water quality and recorded beach conditions, following Alliance for the Great Lakes standards. This on-going record of conditions helps to gauge long-term issues and improvements in our water and beach quality.
- Providing classes funding to visit GCA for a school program if the school is unable to afford the educational ticket price.
- Working with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to place aquariums in fourth grade classrooms. Each class observes the aquarium, tests conditions and records changes in behavior to meet the Ohio science curriculum standards for fourth graders. The culmination of this project will be a visit to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.
It’s easy to support our Splash Fund! Just round up your ticket to donate at the ticket counter (every nickel helps!). Or become a member at the donor level. The GCA offers two donor level memberships aimed to assist local schools: the Ensign Membership and the Lieutenant Membership.
The Ensign level membership is $250 and includes one family pass consisting of two adults and two children (2-12), a GCA pass holder car decal, and a $120 donation to our education fund to cover the cost of transportation for an educational class to visit the GCA.
The Lieutenant level membership is $500 and includes one family pass consisting of two adults and up to four children any age under 17, a Behind the Scenes tour for up to six people, and a $210 donation to cover the cost of GCA admission for an educational class of 20 students.
We encourage you to consider these two memberships and to pass on this information to friends and family who share the same love for education as we do. Click here here
