Around these tanks, Josh is the one that keeps everything safe. The aquarium definitely would not run smoothly without him, so it only makes sense for us
to show our gratitude by featuring him! Keep reading to find out more about Josh:
Head of Security
How long have you worked at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium?
“I’ve been here since we opened, so from the very beginning.”
What are your responsibilities?
“My main responsibility is to keep everyone-employees, guests, fish and wildlife- safe. If there are ever any problems regarding safety, it is my
responsibility to take care of.”
Do you have a favorite animal at the aquarium?
“Out of all of the animals, I love the Sand Tiger shark the best – I don’t really have a specific reason why, but I am just fascinated by them.”
How did you become involved at the aquarium?
“I was working at a security company that was hired to begin the process of establishing security when the aquarium first opened. I think there was around
12 of us when we began, and I was carried over and eventually hired by the aquarium.”
What does a typical day look like for you?
“I normally get here between 8 and 8:30 in the morning. I first check emails and then I open the aquarium, which involves turning on all of the lights,
looking at the exhibits and making sure there aren’t any major problems that the overnight staff didn’t catch. I check all of the doors from the inside and
out and the remainder of my time is mostly spent walking around the aquarium and just having a presence. The cool thing about this job is that everyday is
similar, but everyday is also different – because you never know what could happen.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
“The interaction with kids and people in general. I love being there so everyone knows they are safe, and little kids tend to look up to you that way.
Truthfully, helping people is what I like to do.”
“Do you have a favorite memory or funny story about your time here?
“I have a ton, it’s hard to pin point one favorite. But, they all have to do with Bruce.”
What is your dream job?
“My dream job would either involve being involved as a member of a Sheriff’s department, working with the Fish and Wildlife Commission as a wildlife and
conservation officer, or working with the police in general.”
We sure do appreciate everything you do here, Josh. Thank you!
